Participants will spend a substantial part of the journey driving and hiking both in and between the parks. There is also an optional add-on for Day 2 in Zion NP whereby participants can choose to opt into a full day mountain biking or canyoneering tour while the group is hiking.
Despite the fact that many IU Outdoor Adventures trips are designed for beginners, there are still inherent risks associated with the challenges of certain outdoor activities. We want to provide you with an unbiased snapshot of what those challenges are so you can make an educated decision regarding your participation.
Hiking may require you to carry a day bag with food, group gear, and/or personal items but should not exceed 10 lbs. Hiking distance is typically less than 5 miles but is often ruggd/steep terrain.
Tent camping will be in shared group tents and likely in cold temperatures.
Mental challenges vary by individual. Participants should be prepared for group interaction with limited time alone. The group will spend many days in the car and will require the group cohesion and teamwork. Cell phone service will be limited and generally discouraged to allow participants to fully appreciate the outdoors. Bathroom accommodations will vary depending on location but may include backcountry practices (i.e. dig and bury or wag bags).
All participants are expected to read and agree to the terms listed under the "Support" menu before registering for this event.
