The Student Summit is a conference for students, by students on experiential, outdoor, environmental, and adventure education. We aim to empower students and emerging professionals to come together, learn, and share their passions with each other.

About the Event

It is our belief that students can and should have the opportunity to not only learn from professionals, but also from one another. See more friendly price allowing participants the opportunity to begin to create a professional network. The event also offers attendees the chance to present a workshop among their peers as well as the opportunity to learn more about various programs, schools, and agencies in the outdoor recreation field. The student summit provides organizations, schools, and camps the opportunity to send large groups of staff and students to a cost friendly professional development opportunity. Though most of the presentations and learning will be a peer to peer design, professional pre/post conferences, key-note speakers, and mentoring also is an integral part of the summit experience.

Target Audience: College, University Students, Recent Graduates, and Emerging Professionals interested in Outdoor Recreation and Education.

Workshops: Participant Presentations and Workshops will be solicited from participating organizations, colleges, and universities. To provide value to the experience of presenting, timely and relevant feedback will be given to presenters immediately following their presentations from a mix of students and professionals.

Keynote Presentation: An engaging speaker will be invited to share the story of how they blazed the trail that led to a successful career in the outdoor recreation field.

Social and Professional Development Opportunities: Participants will have the opportunity to meet, interact, and socialize with others who share their interests and passions as they relate to the out-of-doors. In addition, students will gain exposure to professionals currently working in the field of outdoor recreation as well as various professional organizations in the field.

Evening Entertainment: Friday evening entertainment to possibly include a relevant film fest, campfire, and Trivia. Saturday evening entertainment will take the form of the Heartland Student Social including live entertainment.

Value to student attendees: The Heartland Region Student Summit will provide a forum for discussion, exploration, and shared learning among like-minded emerging professionals interested in -and passionate about- outdoor recreation and experiential education. It will serve as an opportunity for students at all levels to gather together with peers and professionals to learn, socialize, connect, and begin to develop a professional mission statement. This experience is designed to be a student-centered forum enhancing the scholastic and professional development of its attendees through student-presented workshops, social networking events, and breakout sessions that will introduce some of the professional organizations that support and inform the field of outdoor recreation. Attendees will collaborate with other students, professional mentors, and experientially-minded educators to establish rich and lasting connections and begin laying a solid foundation for future professional endeavors.
