See more Eskenazi Museum of Art plans to implement art therapy upon reopening in Fall of 2019.  Art therapists are masters-level clinicians with expertise in utilizing the process of art-making in therapy. Trained in both mental health counseling and art therapy techniques, art therapists utilize art materials in strategic ways to move their clients toward healing.  Participants will learn about the Expressive Therapies Continuum, which offers a perspective on individual responses to different art materials.  Participants will experience a variety of art materials through hands-on activities.  No experience in the arts needed.  Please join us to learn about the field of art therapy and experience some personal insights about art and healing.

 

Instructor: Lauren King, LMHCA, ATR-P, is the Arts-based Wellness Experiences Manager at the IU Eskenazi Museum of Art. King holds a master’s degree in art therapy from the Herron School of Art and Design at IUPUI where she completed her thesis research exploring the intersection of art therapy and art museums. King has extensive experience as a teaching artist working with children, adolescents and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities including those with Autism Spectrum Disorders. In addition, King has experience utilizing art therapy with children, adolescents, and adults with mental health and behavioral health concerns.
