Between Two Giants: Latin America During the Cold War

This class will examine the rise of revolutionary movements in Latin America and how the Cold War moment shaped their downfall. We will make use of declassified CIA documents, press interviews, and official speeches to examine US reactions to the Cuban and Guatemalan revolutions. We will touch on foreign policy debates, how such events are remembered and discussed, and on the human consequences of the ideological battles between the US and Soviet Union.
